PARALLEL DELUSIONS
I’m always interested in photographing space and lights using a film camera. For me it feels different than using a digital camera, not only because it uses film instead of digital, but also we never know what the result is going to be. When using a digital camera, I always have a fear of ‘perfection’ because I’m able to see the result right away, however when using a film camera I felt a connection between me and the subject because I really spend my time to capture that subject, although in the end the result will still become a mystery until it gets developed.
Since I move to Los Angeles, I met so many new friends, but most of them live in a far away place from my home, and the sad part is I don’t own any sort of transportation except from my bicycle, so it’s very hard to get in touch with them. It does kind of feel sad and lonely to be honest.
In this project, I’d like to combine both space and time as my subject; in this case, it’ll be my friends. The camera has the power to combine and bend two separate realities into a whole new reality; my idea is to do a multiple exposure contain of a photograph of a certain location proximity to my home & a photograph of my friends. In my personal opinion, having a photograph of my friends combined with spaces around me makes me feel that they are here with me, reminding me that I’m not alone.
